La casa, luogo denso di sensazioni, inquietudini, emozioni. La casa come rifugio e protezione, come labirinto e voragine. La casa fatta di piccole esperienze quotidiane ed oggetti qualsiasi. La casa come luogo da cui si fugge e dove si ritorna. La pregnanza esistenziale della dimensione domestica viene indagata e declinata in tutte le sue accezioni nella collettiva There is no place like home che la Galleria Contemporaneo, in collaborazione con la Galleria Nazionale Albanese, è lieta di presentare.
Può un lavoratore illegale sentirsi a casa tra i monumenti e le bellezze artistiche di Roma, città costruita dalle mani degli schiavi? La forza delle immagini scattate da Lala Meredith-Vula (Sarajevo -1966, vive e lavora in Inghilterra) pone un interrogativo spiazzante, diretto e quanto mai attuale.
La guerra del Kosovo che distrugge e uccide nei dintorni non intacca invece l’intensità domestica in Sugar was leaking, video del giovanissimo artista di Pristina, Bekim Gllogu.
Rarefatta e nostalgica è invece l’atmosfera dell’installazione di Koen Wastijn, artista belga che coglie in modo sottile l’incredibile e paradossale intrecciarsi di esterno ed interno, di calore e gelo.
E poi ancora: il mondo nella sua molteplicità intravisto dalle fessure delle finestre che da esso ci dividono così come viene colto dal suggestivo lavoro di Dritan Hyska; la nostalgia onirica degli scatti di Genti Korini (Tirana - 1979); i dipinti di Orion Shima (Tirana – 1969) e Ardian Isufi (Tirana - 1973) e il senso di distacco e di frenetica mobilità che il lavoro impone che emerge in modo efficace e coinvolgente dal video di Herbert Christian Stöger.
La mostra, a cura di Rubens Shima e Riccardo Caldura, si terrà in parallelo alla 52ª Edizione della Biennale di Arti Visive di Venezia e nasce dall’attenta selezione di alcuni tra gli artisti che hanno partecipato alla 13ª Edizione del Premio Onufri, manifestazione internazionale che da anni favorisce modalità innovative di ricerca artistica.

Home, a place pregnant with sensations, concerns, emotions. Home as a shelter and protection, as a labyrinth and an abyss. Home made of simple everyday experiences and ordinary objects. Home as the place to run away from and where to come back.The group show that Galleria Contemporaneo is pleased to announce as a collaboration with the Albanian National Gallery of Arts deals with the existential importance and many-sided nature of the domestic world. Can an illegal worker fell at home among the monuments and artistic beauties of Rome, a town built by slaves? The intensity of the images shot by Lala Meredith-Vula (Sarajevo -1966, lives and works in UK) asks wrong-footed, direct and extremely relevant questions. In Sugar was leaking, a video by the very young artist from Pristina, Bekim Gllogu, family feelings cannot be damaged by the Kosovo war, destroying and killing all around.
Rarefied and nostalgic is the atmosphere of the installation by Koen Wastijn, Belgian artist whose work grasps in a subtle way the amazing and paradoxical interweaving of the outside with the inside, of warmth with cold.
And moreover: the city, the overlapping of spaces and lives, as it is in the evocative work by Dritan Hyska; the dreamlike nostalgia of the photos by Genti Korini (Tirana - 1979); the paintings by Orion Shima (Tirana – 1969) and Ardian Isufi (Tirana - 1973), the sense of distance and feverish mobility that jobs force on us as in the intriguing and incisive video by Herbert Christian Stöger.
The exhibition, curated by Rubens Shima and Riccardo Caldura, is organized in the occasion of the 52nd Edition of the Venice Biennale of Visual Arts and is based on the selection of some among the artists who took part to the 13th Edition of the Onufri Prize, an international competition that since years successfully supports new ways of artistic research.
