Si tratta della prima personale in Italia dell’artista ungherese Attila Csörgő che permette uno sguardo esaustivo su una complessa e particolarissima ricerca artistica nella quale si fondono aspetti cardinali della modernità (la geometria, la percezione, la rappresentazione) con l’invenzione di dispositivi atti a coniugare e a reinterpretare quegli aspetti medesimi. Attila Csörgő è un esempio di artista-inventore che letteralmente crea nuove "macchinerie" e immagini basate sullo sviluppo dei paradossi della geometria: «Ciò che all’inizio mi interessava era la incompatibilità a priori fra due sistemi che sembravano in relazione: le geometria piana e la geometria solida» [Csörgő]. Da questo inizio si generano installazioni, oggetti, fotografie, disegni che presentano solidi animati meccanicamente o tenuti sospesi nello spazio da lievi correnti d’aria; immagini geometriche create dalla luce; macchine fotografiche uniche per la trascrizione a 180° dell’ambiente circostante; piante di edifici che ne mostrano lo sviluppo continuo della superficie.

Fra le partecipazioni internazionali dell’artista – nato a Budapest nel 1965, dove ha compiuto i suoi studi all’Accademia di Belle Arti, proseguendo poi la sua ricerca alla Rijksakademie van beeldende Kunsten di Amsterdam – vanno almeno ricordate la Biennale veneziana del 1999 (Padiglione ungherese), la Biennale di Istanbul del 2003 e Und es bewegt sich doch... a Bochum.

This first Italian solo show by the Hungarian artist Attila Csörgő enables an expansive view on a complex and very peculiar artistic research in which basic aspects of the modernity (geometry, perception, representation) are combined with the invention of devices able to conjugate and reinterpret those aspects themselves. Attila Csörgő is an example of an artist-inventor who literally creates new mechanisms and images based on the development of geometrical paradoxes: «At the beginning what I cared for was the a priori incompatibility between two systems apparently in relation: the plane and solid geometry» [Csörgő]. Installations, objects, photographs and drawings arise from this concept: they show solids mechanically moved or kept hanging in the space by slight draughts; geometric images created by the light; special cameras invented to provide a 180° degrees panoramic view of the surroundings; buildings plans showing the continuous development of their surfaces.

Attila Csörgő was born in 1965 in Budapest, the city where he began his studies at the Fine Arts Academy. He then studied at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam. Among his international participations, we would like to mention the 1999 Venice Biennale (Hungarian Pavilion), the 2003 Istanbul Biennale and the Und es bewegt sich doch... in Bochum.
